New Life Center

Ministry Description
New Life Center is Fargo’s longest-running homeless shelter and rescue mission. Founded as the Glad Tidings Mission in 1907, New Life Center has since evolved from an organization that primarily conducted religious services and neighborhood outreach into a Christ-centered, multifaceted emergency and crisis recovery services center.

Our mission is to serve people on the journey from homeless and hurting to whole and healthy by meeting basic needs and transforming lives through the love of Christ. We provide shelter for adult men experiencing homelessness while offering vital support to men, women, and children through food and clothing services.

Through a diverse range of programs tailored to individual needs, we provide critical support to those in crisis. Each of our programs plays a pivotal role in providing access to food, shelter, and clothing – all of which are vital and the first step in helping someone get back on their feet and escape homelessness.

HARBOR: This short-term emergency program provides guests safety, sobriety, and stability for up to 90 days. Case management services are offered to each guest, guiding housing applications, obtaining personal identification, and addiction and recovery program referrals. Additionally, a shelter nurse is available to address medical needs.

PASSPORT: In collaboration with the Fargo VA, this program helps U.S. Military Veterans address and overcome barriers to housing and move forward on a pathway out of homelessness. The primary objective is to transition Veterans into housing within a six-month timeframe. However, participants can remain in the program for up to two years if needed.

MEDICAL RESPITE: In partnership with Sanford Health, onsite registered nurses care for men recovering from illnesses, injuries, and medical procedures in a separate medical dorm. Guests receive comprehensive case management and care transition planning during their stay, depending upon the severity of their needs.

GENESIS RECOVERY: This long-term program offers a safe, highly structured setting where men focus on self-discovery, understand the root causes of their addiction, identify relapse triggers, and develop a robust recovery plan. Life-skills classes, community-based mentoring, and spiritual guidance help them lay the foundation for a bright and stable future, free from addiction.

COMMUNITY MEALS: Our meals program helps meet a growing need in our community by preparing and serving healthy meals to men, women, and children.

CLOTHING VOUCHERS: In partnership with The Salvation Army, our thrift store offers a community clothing voucher program to provide household essentials to men, women, and children in need at no cost.
