The Kellermann Foundation

Ministry Description
The Kellermann Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable foundation whose mission is to provide resources for health, education, spiritual outreach, and economic empowerment for the benefit of the Batwa pygmies and adjacent communities in southwest Uganda, East Africa. The indigenous Batwa pygmies were hunter-gatherers in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for millennia. In 1991, the forest was designated as a World Heritage Site to protect about 350 endangered mountain gorillas who shared the forest. The Batwa were evicted from the park, and without compensation, land, skills to survive outside of the park, or formal education, they became destitute and in abject poverty. To fulfill our mission, the Kellermann Foundation advances three main programs in Uganda:

1. The Batwa Development Program (BDP) providing community development in the form of education (primary through adult), spiritual outreach, income generation, land acquisition, home building, agriculture and nutritional training, and healthcare;

2. Bwindi Community Hospital (BCH) providing comprehensive healthcare to the entire region; and

3. Uganda Nursing School Bwindi (UNSB) providing top-level nursing and midwifery education.
