Every October, we celebrate Pastor Appreciation Month or Clergy Appreciation Month. It's a time when we recognize and celebrate the contributions and guidance of pastors, priests, ministers, and clergy members everywhere. With over 300 accredited churches throughout the United States, ECFA is proud to support and uplift these inspiring leaders.
Scripture encourages us to honor church leaders. In 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13, Paul called church communities to "acknowledge those who work hard among you, who for you in the Lord and who admonish you." He also calls to give "double honor" to church elders whose work is preaching and teaching. (1 Timothy 5:17)
Along with Pastor Appreciation Month, we celebrate Pastor Appreciation Day on the second Sunday in October to show appreciation to church leaders. Even though there is a specific day to show your appreciation, we encourage you to show your pastor to your church leaders year-round!
Here are five thoughtful ways you can bless your pastor this month:
- Pray: Lift up your church leaders in prayer. Pray for God's protection, wisdom, encouragement, their marriage, and their children. Whatever God lays on your heart, pray for them as they lead and shepherded the church.
- Provide Meals: Treat them to a home-cooked meal or takeout from their favorite restaurant.
- Gift Card: Give them a gift card to a movie theater, a local restaurant, a coffee shop, or a clothing store.
- Plan a Celebration: Have your church organize and plan a celebration during one church service. You could create a special video, sing their favorite worship song, or present a love offering.
- Share Your Skills: Offer your time and skills such as babysitting, lawn care, auto maintenance, home repairs, or projects.
These gestures can brighten their month and show how much you value their hard work!
